Info
The CD cover for Ono & Kemp – Hip Hop retten is a tribute to the legendary EPMD – Back in Business album. The project began with in-depth research into the visual elements of the original EPMD album. I then designed a logo for Ono & Kemp that paid homage to the classic design, creating a look and feel that mirrored the original while incorporating modern touches. The final phase of the project involved extensive photo editing to bring the vision to life.
Overview
This project required not only a deep understanding of the original EPMD album but also the ability to reinterpret it in a way that aligned with Ono & Kemp’s vision. The challenge was to stay true to the essence of the homage while ensuring the design resonated with a contemporary audience. By blending old-school hip-hop aesthetics with modern design techniques, we created a visually striking cover that honored the roots of the genre.
My Role
I was responsible for the entire design process, from the initial research and concept development to the creation of the final CD cover. This involved designing a custom logo that echoed the iconic EPMD style and photoshopping the cover to ensure a cohesive and professional final product. My role also included crafting the overall visual identity for the album, ensuring consistency with the artists’ vision while staying faithful to the original inspiration.
Outcomes & Impact
The Hip Hop retten CD cover successfully captured the spirit of the EPMD homage, earning praise from both the artists and their fanbase. The design struck a balance between nostalgia and modernity, helping the album stand out in the crowded hip-hop scene. This project reinforced my ability to blend research-driven design with creative execution, resulting in a product that resonated with its target audience.
